Faithgirlz! Fashion Guide
Faithgirlz! would never say something is cool just cause everyone else in doing it. Faithgirlz! Fashion celebrates looks girlz choose to wear that respect themselves and make them feel good about who they are.
Idea 1: Fabric markers are your friends
You can use them to create so many looks! Design your own t-shirts, add some flair to jeans, canvas shoes, or plain scarves or bandanas. The possibilities are endless and every creation is one-of-a-kind!
Idea 2: Reuse … rediscover … revamp
Is your dad getting rid of some old neckties? Grab ‘em up to use as a belt or a head scarf. Did only one of your favorite socks make it out of the laundry, the other never to be seen again? Cut off the foot section and use the elastic ankle section to create a funky wrist band or leg warmer. Ask relatives to share jewelry they are done with — Grandma’s beads and old pins can go a long way once you get your hands on them!
Idea 3: Mix and match
Use your existing clothes and accessories to create totally new looks. Throw a skirt over a pair of jeans, wear a t-shirt over a long sleeve shirt, or combine contrasting colors. Fun fashion is not about buying more and more clothes. Getting creative with what you have is the Faithgirlz! way!
Idea 4: Have a used clothing party
Clean out those drawers by hosting a used clothing party. Every participant has to bring two or three pieces of clothing that are in good shape but remain sitting in their drawer or closet unused. Put all the items in the middle of the room and take turns choosing something new from the pile. Draw numbers if the mood gets competitive. This is a great way to spend time with friends and a totally free way to change up everybody’s wardrobe.
Idea 5: Get stitchin’
All it takes is a few simple stitches and you can transform almost anything by adding sequins, beads, buttons, or even a patch or two. All that’s required is a needle, thread, and some imagination. The sky’s the limit — you might go crazy and cover a whole purse or simply add a new design on the pocket of some old jeans.

Wear whatever style you like as long as your parents think it's okay. You should be able to express yourself through your fashion, so if you have to wear uniforms to school and you don't like it fight against it, say " we should have our own rights to express our fashion" but have people to back you up maybe a few adults and students. Well good luck. Hope it works I back you up.– Paige, age 11

Faithgirlz Tip #10
You don't have to go to the butique (super fancy clothing store) to get your every-day-to-day clothing. When ever you and mum have a free day ask her to drive you to your neerest thrift store, you will be suprised at what you can find there! Remember to stay apropriate. BE WHO YOU ARE!! Don't try to be some one else that has '' the latest fashion on her or has the ''coolest of the coolest'' hair style.'' Being your self is really about how you think about yourself. If you where to think of your self as an ugly duckling you would certainly want to be some one else. So stick up for your self, be confident and whenever you feel as though you are just simply ''ugly'' or not as ''cute'' as you could be.... THINK AGAIN!! You are a unique soul that no one can replace! The Lord made you this may for a very speacial reason. Remember this when doubt comes into your mind about your looks.– Tracie, age 11

Okay, so some of you girls think that makeup is bad and God is against it.But I strongly suggest you reconsider. Look at our female Christian role models. How about Nancy Rue?? She wears makeup, and God certainly has blessed her. I love wearing makeup, and I think that it can actually strengthen your bond with God. Since we won't be worrying about our looks anymore, we can give our attention back to him. Just go for colors that compliment your God-given beauty.– Ireland, age 10

Take out all of your clothes and lay them out on your bed. Take out some of your least fav. clothes until you have the same number of tops and bottoms. Mix and match until you have an outfit for the most important ocassions. Fold the outfits together, label them (Like if you have a outfit for a town trip, label it town trip.....and so on.) and put them in your dresser. use any remaining drawers for storage.– Emma, age 10
Faithgirlz Tip #23
I love layers!!! I always wear them. If a shirt is to short, wear a longer T-sirt under it. Or you can change your look up wearing different colored shirts....Anything goes good over a black long-sleeved T-shirt or a white one. I like to wear two colors of blue or green. I find that if you wear light colored or lightly patterned butten-up (a 3/4 sleeve looks great.) under a polo T-shirt, it looks AWESOME!!! :) If you are layering, DO NOT wear heavy or bulky clothes over or under other clothes!!! Hope this helps!– Kathryn, age 12 (Almost 13....)

Faithgirlz Tip #26
Here Is My Tips! Hair:messy buns are extremely hot right now, and so easy to pull off. Perfect for bad hair days, lazy days, and pretty much any day you want! They look great during the day, at night, at work, school, whatever you want Fashion If You Got A Skinny Bottom:Skinny bottom half? Wear a full top over narrow pants Fashion if got short waist:Short waisted? Wear a long top and short skirt Fashion if got petite torso:Petite torso? Wear a fitted top with full pants Fashion if got long Hips: Long Hips? Pair a short top with long bottoms More Tips Bellow Show off the trimmest parts of your body by combining a tight fitting piece with a loose fitting one. Any color worn head to toe in a clean, unbroken line will produce a dynamically slimming effect. Don't worry if separates don't match exactly. Tonal variations are a creative alternative. Taller bodies can take larger prints and more contrast. The darker a print's background, the slimmer the look. Blouses: a collared shirt always gives a torso a few good inches and frames the face handsomely. A slim v-neck makes the neck appear longer and is usually very flattering. Boatnecks are great for minimizing waists and hips, while maximizing sexy shoulders. If your legs are fuller inside, try a side slit. If your legs are fuller outside, a mid-front or back slit is a better choice. There is never an excuse for panty lines! A thong is a girl's best friend - they even come with tummy control. Bright colors bring attention to an area - make sure you wear them wisely and only on your most flattering body parts. Dark hosiery is in this fall. While brightly colored turquoise and scarlet hose may look great in the store window, muted hues like teal and wine are much more flattering. Match the shoe and the hose color to tighten the look even more. A shoulder bag tucked quietly under the arm is most flattering. Stilettos are back and in spite of the discomfort at times - they make your legs look like a million dollars!– Esmeralda, age 12

obviously we all want the tube tops and short skirts to have guys look at us the way they look at Brittany or Alex at school..... But is that the right kind of attention????? would God be pleasedwith that kind of attention you are attracting???? In my opinion, There is nothng wrong with a short skirt, so long as your not wearing it to attract the attention of every boy on the street!!!(and of course your parents should be in agreement too)i have found that if a guy, a good guy, will like you, he's going to like you for you, especially when youare modest and not trying to get bad attention, from anyone!!!!!! Being yourself is important.... so dont pay any attetion when Brittany tells you about the great party she went to on Saterday or how she went to the movies on a date with Matt..... Remember that God is pleased when you do what is right and youare trying to please him..... He loves you and, even though I've never met you, I love you too and am praying for you to do the right thing in the name of Jesus.– Miss Helpful, age 14( finally)!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't dress to impress boys. Dress to impress God. HI! I'm Carissa. I think it's fun to keep in fashion...as long as you don't make it your #1 thing in life. That's God's place. Here's some dressing tips: 1. Layer! 2. When your buying tops, put your thumb in your collarbone are the rest of your fingers lay flat on your chest. If, when you have a shirt on, you can see skin below your fingers, don't buy it. 3. When buying skirts, put a skirt on and sit cross-legged. If you see your underwear or too much of your upper legs, than pick out a different skirt. 5. Jewelry is your best friend. You can't go wrong with jewelry! It's fun and fashionable. 6. Your hair. I personally like curly or wavy hair over straight hair. Long or short, curly or straight, it's up to you! If you choose curly and your hair is flat and straight (like mine!) than there are a couple ways to curl it. -Curling iron. HOWEVER! this can be hurtful to thin hair. It is hurtful to any type of hair if used daily. -After you shower braid your hair and go to sleep. when you wake up, take out the braids and you'll have awesome waves! This is how I do my hair. If you prefer straight hair, that's fine too. HAVE FUN WITH YOUR HAIR AND CLOTHES! God bless.– Carissa, age 14

HERE ARE SOME RULES TO SHOP BY: When trying on new shirts that are a little low, put your thumb in the crook of your neck, with your other four fingers below thumb, all touching each other. If there is any skin below your fingers, the shirt is too low. When trying on new skirts, hang your arm down by your side with your fingers down. If your skirt is above it, it's too high. Also, reach up your arms too God when trying on a new shirt, and if your see skin when your reaching up, that shirt has to go! Now a word about your NAILS & HAIR: Now, like I said before, don't be to obsessed with your nails and hair. NAILS: I suggest filing your nails instead of clipping, unless they are really long and you want them short. My personal favorite colors of nail polish are light pink and white for a French manicure, where you just paint the tips of your nails. HAIR: I like all hair lengths but I think that longer hair is better cause you can do more with it. However, short is adorable too! Just whichever fits your lifestyle is better. High ponytails are totally in style right now! Also--flat hair is SO in right now as well! plus it is cute, easy, and fun. A curling iron might be nice once in a while but extensive use of it will damage you hair. PIERCING EARS: If you want to pierce your ears, ask your parents and go to Claire's.– Carissa, age 13

This tip is for hair. When you're styling, it always helps when you have a spray bottle handy. You can get those stray hairs to lay down easier, it saves tons of time, and is so refreshing during these blazing hot summers. I live at the beach, so it's even more great for me. Anyway, freeze water in it over night and fill it up the rest of the way in the morning. Use it, and then pack it into your backpack. Just in case, store it in a ziplock bag, and if you can, keep it away from important papers and homework.– Cassie, age 11

I love paint splatter stuff! But since I'm artsy, and usually low on cash, I like to make my own. What I do is I go outside, spread newspaper 3 feet around the object, and either 1. Stick a sheet of cardboard in the middle of a shirt or 2. stuff my sneaks with tissue pare. Then, I get paint, of course, an eyedropper, and a paint brush. I know, you're thinking, "Why would I need an eyedropper? Is she serious?" Yes, actually, I am. I use the eyedropper to make splotches on stuff. You can use the paintbrush too, but I think the eyedropper works better. You can do this to almost anything, with small variations. Have fun!– Cassie, age 11

This isn't really a clothes tip, but it's fashion forward. I have dedicated a notebook to fashion. After I flip through a magazine or a clothing catalouge, I cut out outfits that I like, and the ones that only have one or two things not my style. Next, I paste those pieces in my journal, along with a paragraph about what's cool about them, what's not, and how I could change it so that it screams ME. My paragraph is NOT based on what's considered "cool", but on what I think is. Then I go to a fabric store, buy some cool fabric, and go home and sew some of my original versions of what's "in". Faithgirlz Tip #709
Even though I might be in middle school and most of the girls my age wear tons of makeup, I wear none. The most makeup I ever wear is a candy flavored shimmer lip gloss, and that's it. My best friend always wears a bunch of blush, eye shadow, mascara, lip gloss, and eye liner. She does look a little pretty, but lately she has been changing her style to fit the "popular girls'" style. Sometimes I tell her that she is wearing just a bit too much makeup for a day at school. Don't start thinking that just because "everyone else" is wearing huge globs of makeup, you have to wear makeup too, especially if you're a tomboy or an in-betweener like me. Just be yourself, and never forget God!– Kinsey, age 12
Faithgirlz Tip #710
My favorite fashion tip: BE YOURSELF. I wear lots of bright, funky, layered shirts with dark blue flare or skinny jeans with cute sneakers or my Uggs. I also wear a simple silver star necklace and cute earrings with big bangle bracelets. It looks cute, and all of my bracelets say stuff like "Live, laugh, love Jesus!" or "WWJD?". Everyone that I meet loves my style, and my favorite accessory? A huge smile!– Kinsey, age 12
Faithgirlz Tip #711
My absolute favorite outfit during the winter is dark navy skinny jeans, tan (knock-off) Uggs, and a bright spaghetti strap shirt with my brown long sleeved over shirt. It looks AWESOME, flatters my figure, and is very modest at the same time.– Kinsey, age 12

During the summer, since I live in Texas and it gets deathly hot here, I love wearing spaghetti-strap sundresses with tan or gray cowboy boots. It looks so cute, and since I buy most of my clothes from Christian stores, I can look cute and praise God at the same time!– Kinsey, age 12
Faithgirlz Tip #713
Ok, so ya know Abercrombie and Aeropostale and Hollister and all that? Well all of the "popular" girls (and some guys, too!) at my school wear stuff like that ALL THE TIME- I'm not kidding! Some of my friends wear that stuff, but not too often. My mom and lots of parents at my church don't like those styles, so they don't let their kids wear it. I am perfectly fine with that- I love being unique, even if that means sometimes being made fun of because I don't wear what "everyone else is wearing". I honestly can't care less that I get teased, because I know that God doesn't care that I don't wear Aeropostale like "everyone else".– Kinsey, age 12

If you see something at the mall or store that you look at and think "Wow, that would be so cool to have!" Maybe it's the new Cellphone You've wanted, or maybe it's a really cute T-shirt you really want to have. It's not bad to want something, but think to yourself.."Will this really matter to me in the next 10 mins., or the next 10 yrs.?" There will always be something new coming around the corner, but you don't HAVE to have it. It only counts what you have in your life. Are you living like the world, or not of this world? Do not keep your possesions on the earth, but keep you treasures in Heaven. We preteens and teens (mainly girls) worry about how we are. If you know God is glad with you at least trying to be like Him, then that's amazing, and He's looking down at you saying "I love you my child".– Anjel, age 12

And last, but NOT least, you can take those T-shirts,and some brightly- colored thread, and go along the cuffs and hem of it and...you can have a whole new wardrobe in a few minutes!– Eliza, age 9
Faithgirlz Tip #721
Remember MODESTY. If you want to test a shirt for modesty then put it on and lift your arms. If you can see your bellybutton, it's probably too small. Try not to wear super-tight shirts. Test all your skirts for length, but it's okay if you wear leggings with it. Another idea if you want to display your love for Jesus is to grab a white T-shirt and use fabric paint to paint, 'I Love Jesus Christ' or 'I am a Christian'. Remember mix-and-match. Take a white t-shirt and a tank top in a solid color and pair of jeans, and voila! You can wear jewelery with it, too. If you get bored with what your wearing, rhinestones and fabric paint are exellent for revamping clothes. (Tacky glue for the rhinestones or Iron-on ones.) Also try to hand-sew or machine stitch designs on a shirt or jean pocket and if you don't like it, always have a stitch reaper ready. I hope these tips come in handy! :)– Abbie, age 11
Faithgirlz Tip #722
If you see something at the store that you like, & you go "Whoa! I love that, can I get it mom?" Then when you look at the price with your mom, & see that it costs a LOT, don't be discouraged, just wait until the store puts it on clearance, then ask your mom about it again!
